Media Credentials

You will be issued a physical media credential/pass upon check in at a Media Center, and the credential will allow access to designated media areas at each start and finish. You will be required to show a valid photo ID, such as a driver's license or passport, in order to sign for and claim your credential. Official credentials will be available to approved media (who have submitted the appropriate application in advance and received a confirmation by email or fax) beginning at the Media Center. The Media Center will be open approximately nine hours on most days of the Tour. Dates, times and locations will be available online a few days in advance of the race.

Credential Pick-Up Locations

One Press Officer will be available at all start locations at a tent near the public address announcer's stage to distribute credentials and photographer vests each day. At the finish line, credentials and photographer vests can be picked up at the Media Center. Media Center dates, times and locations will be available online a few days in advance of the race.

Road Access with Credential

A credential DOES NOT guarantee complete access to the race course, as some areas are restricted to only those assigned vests. A prime area behind the barriers will be cordoned off for all credentialed media at the starts and finishes, and credentialed media will have access to the competitor and team vehicle parking area before and after each stage. You will be required to show your media credential to get into these areas as well as the pre-race and stage finish press conferences. Limits apply to the number of photographer vests issued and the number of media able to travel in the race caravan in designated media vehicles.

Limits apply to the number of photographer vests issued and the number of media able to travel in the race caravan in designated media vehicles. (See Photography and Caravan Travel below for additional information)

Press Tents at Finish Line

At each finish line, there will be a 10 x 20 foot tent. At most finish lines, it will located next to the announcer's stage next to the finish line. There will be a monitor that will air the race from the road. This area will also service as a temporary interview area post-race while cyclists wait for the award's ceremony.

Media Centers

Located near the finish of each stage, a working press room is available for all credentialed media, complete with telephone lines and Internet connections - wireless, DSL high-speed and when possible an analog line. Services are provided on a first come, first served basis. A complete list of press rooms will be available online a few days before the race starts. It will also be provided upon pick up of credentials. Media Center are for the Tour of Missouri Press Team and accredited media only, including agencies and sponsor's press staff.

Press Conferences

A post-race press conference will be held following each day's race. The press conference will be held immediately following the awards ceremonies, approx. 30 minutes after the stage ends. Press conference sites will be provided at the start of the race. The press conferences will usually feature the race leader, stage winner, news maker of the day, local and sponsor officials.

Official Spokespersons

Official spokesperson for the race is Chris Aronhalt (678.787.5878) or Steve Brunner (719.322.7022). Please see a member of the press team to coordinate an interview with any race officials. The press team will also assist in arranging interviews with cyclists, if time permits; however, it is highly encouraged that media contact each team's press officer prior to the race to schedule an onsite interview during race week. Most contact information for each team's press officer is available on each team's website. All sponsor-related questions will be handled through a representative of the appropriate sponsor. With respect to teams, the press operations staff will direct you to the appropriate team contact. And, if one is not available, we will assign a press staff member to assist you.

Television Interviews: Limited television interviews with the stage winner and race leader will take place immediately following the stage finishes and prior to the Awards Ceremonies. The host broadcaster, Versus, has the priority in these interviews, and it is requested that all media refrain from interfering by not asking questions during this short time. Quotes from these interviews will be available to all media shortly after the press conference. The host broadcaster of the race is Medalist Sports. The Versus producer is Kent Gordis.

IMPORTANT NOTE: It is recommended that all credentialed broadcast representatives be present at the official sign-in of start lines, at finish lines, awards ceremonies and press conferences. Additionally, the 2007 Tour of Missouri press team suggests that one-on-one interviews be arranged with Tour press service staff as early as possible before the finish of races. The press team asks that media arrange one-on-one interviews at a time other than at official press conferences due to time constraints and team/racer schedules. Team directors will be encouraged to consider the value of television interviews, and build a schedule that can accommodate possible opportunities.

Route Access

You may wish to view the race from areas other than those provided to media at the start and finish zones. If you do chose to walk out along the route prior to the race's arrival, please cross the route only at the designated cross walks so as to ensure your own safety and the riders. The cross walks will be controlled by designated course marshals or security, and they will notify when it is safe to cross the route. Please ensure you abide by the following safety guidelines:

  • Park your vehicle well off the road if you choose to stop along the race route to watch or photograph the race action.
  • Your vehicle will not be permitted in the race caravan, so be sure to have an adequate map to help you get from place to place.
  • Race logs are available online to help you with your route planning.

IMPORTANT NOTES, SAFETY FIRST: Please adhere to the instructions given by race officials, marshals and law enforcement agencies. They are here to ensure the route is secure and safe for everyone - riders, media, race staff and spectators alike. The Tour will be run under "rolling road closures", meaning the route will close prior to the race's arrival and will re-open once the last race vehicle has passed. Please do not attempt to join or cross the caravan or more importantly leave before the last vehicle passes. Road closures along the route will be kept to a minimum, but long enough to ensure to security of the course and riders. Please DO NOT hinder rider advancement. Stay back, well off the field of play so that the cyclists may pass unimpeded. Do not touch the riders. Be forewarned that while Missouri is absolutely beautiful in September and is very temperate, sudden rain showers and thunder storms can develop, and humidity can be high. So we ask that you come prepared.

Results

Provisional results will be posted in the Media Center as soon as possible after the finish of each stage. You may return to the media center or call the appropriate day's Media Center number to find preliminary results if you are filing your stories at another location. Official results will be available in the Media Center as soon as possible. Results will be posted on the official website as soon as possible after each race.

Medical Inquiries

The Tour's medical staff working on the Tour of Missouri is not permitted to comment on the injuries or medical condition of any athlete or member of the race entourage. Should you require that information for a story you are filing, you must notify the Press Team who will assist you.

Photography and Priority Vests

Only credentialed broadcast/photo representatives may have access to assigned areas on or near the race course each day: sign in area at start line, finish line area, awards ceremony area, press conferences. A limited number of photographers (est. 20) will be part of a pool that will receive vests each day. These assignments will be made in advance, with all requests taken into consideration. Vests will allow photographers to be on the course for finish line shots. This area will be restricted, and any journalist deemed by the race organizers as interfering with the race will have his/her credentials removed for the remainder of the race. Of these vested photographers, a limited number will also be part of a motorbike and from start to finish each day. A form of identification, such as a valid driver's license, will be exchanged for a vest upon vest pick up. No exceptions will be made, so please come prepared.

Photo Motorbikes

Made available to select photographers will be (5) motorbikes, driven by qualified drivers provided by race organizers. ALL PHOTOGRAPHERS ARE HIGHLY ENCOURAGED TO BRING THEIR OWN HELMET. Only a limited amount of helmets are available. Photographers must contact Brook Watts (brook.watts@comcast.net 303.907.3133), Deputy Press Chief, to request access to a bike. If assigned a photo motorbike, please make prior arrangements to accommodate personal vehicles and effects as these are one way trips.

Caravan Travel

Media may ride along in the race caravan in (2) designated media vehicles. Space is limited to four people per van per day. All requests for a seat in the media caravan will be considered. Brook Watts will coordinate. If assigned a seat in the race caravan, please make prior arrangements to accommodate personal vehicles and effects as these are one way trips.

Media Parking

Media Parking is very limited at each finish line. Media should follow the MEDIA PARKING SIGNS which will be near each finish line. Only TV/satellite trucks will be permitted to park near finish. MEDIA PARKING placards will be made available at press room by request.

Pre and Post Race Interviews

Pre and post-race interviews can be coordinated either with each team's press liaison or through Steve Brunner (719.322.7022) and Brook Watts (303.907.3133). Interviews can take place at hotels at night, as many television stations sometimes elect to do live drops.
